Judith Hanson Lasater began practicing yoga in 1970 and started teaching in 1971. She found that what happened on your mat could be lived out in your life and this book presents qualities to explore and cultivate in both places. Lasater explores yoga within yourself, yoga and relationships and how to embrace yoga in the world. A key message throughout Lasater’s book that rang out to me was that we all need to become comfortable with looking inward at ourselves and how our thoughts, words, and actions impact our lives and the lives of those around us. By investigating what happens with our thoughts, words and actions in a yoga pose, we can help ourselves be more comfortable with investigating our thoughts, words and actions in what happens off our mats. Lasataer provides 5 parts to use to help investigate various qualities of ourselves. The 5 parts are a verse from the Yoga Sutras or Bhagavad Gita, an essay relating to the verse, a guided practice to execute, suggestions for additional practice and Mantras for Daily Living. Using these 5 parts, Lasater explores awakening our awareness of our inner selves, expanding out to our relationships with others and how to embrace the world around yourself.
